That girl is self-injurious. She’s an alcoholic. She’s depressed. And telling her she doesn’t have “real” problems is probably the worst thing anyone can do. She already feels worthless. She so very clearly has problems. Mental illness is a problem. It’s an ILLNESS. She needs help and she needs for someone to believe that she has problems.
Color me wrong, but I’m really pretty sure that being depressed and having a mental illness is a “real” problem.

agreed. you wouldn’t tell someone with cancer to stop having cancer, but some people have no problem telling patients with addiction and mental illness to just get over it
